Chapter 1 Adventures in a Banyan Tree

Indian author Ruskin Bond is well known. He was born on May 19, 1934, in Kasauli. His best-known works include A Fight of Pigeons, The Blue Umbrella, and Our trees still grow in Dehra. For his books, he received numerous honors, including the Sahithya Academy Award in 1992. In 1999 and 2014, the Indian government honoured him by presenting him with the Padmasri and Padmabhushan awards.

The short story "The Adventures under a Banyan Tree" is lovely. Ruskin Bond, an Indian novelist of British ancestry, is the author of it. In this tale, we learn how one banyan tree can bring up a great deal of peace and beauty. The author argues that we must protect nature in order to keep our planet attractive.

The author used to enjoy his summer vacations at his grandfather's residence in Dehradun when he was a little lad. It was close to the Himalayan mountains. The garden had a large, gorgeous banyan tree. In that tree, he used to spend the most of his free time. His grandpa was a really old man. Thus, he was unable to climb the tree. The youngster thus claimed ownership of the tree.

The boy made friends with a little grey squirrel on the tree. It wasn't harmed by him. So it started to get along with him. It used to rob him of his nourishment. It was the noisiest location in the spring when the banyan tree was loaded with fruits. All types of birds would swarm there. The child had constructed a seating platform halfway up the tree. He used to read books there and observe his surroundings.

He was in the tree on a bright afternoon. He saw a violent battle between a little mongoose and a massive cobra. They were both shrewd and skilled warriors. They were also hostile. A myna and a crow were also present to see the battle, in addition to the youngster. They got involved in the argument. The snake got rid of the crow. But the myna got away. The cobra was slain and the mongoose emerged victorious from the battle.

The odd relationship between a white rat and a grey squirrel also took place under the banyan tree. Their grandfather purchased the white rat from the store. The boy once came across a nest of three white baby squirrels in a banyan tree. The boy was informed by his grandfather that the white rat must be the father.
